The Place Called Unity

A Long-Forgotten Place

There is a place, a long-forgotten place. A place of connection and belonging. It is Paradise, the sacred ground where man and woman were brought together by God.
It is the place of understanding that one cannot exist without the other. Just as there is no need for the number 2 without the number 1, man gives of his own body for the woman. In unity, he is whole. And she - She would not exist without him.

Yet, he is not whole without her either. And so, the circle of creation, of interdependence, is formed.

A Truth Hard to Hear?

Do women like to hear this?

Do men?

Perhaps men find honor in knowing that she would not exist without him. But for many women, that thought may feel unsettling, maybe even suffocating. Yet, we might enjoy hearing that he needs us to be whole. But do we even trust that?

What if we could set our egos aside for a moment and let this idea settle? What if this statement holds more truth than we’ve allowed ourselves to believe? Could we grow from it? Could we move away from a culture that consumes people and instead begin to cherish one another?

Living the Truth of Unity

I embrace this truth. I allow it to shape my daily life. Not as a humiliation or suppression of my womanhood, but as a deepening of my femininity. It opens the door for my husband to step into my fullness, into my being.

It also helps me understand where he is coming from, in all he does for me, in every word he speaks.

He often says to me:

“If only women knew just how much men cherish them—starting with our mothers. How much we need to protect them, care for them, and keep them safe. If women only knew how we long to make them happy.”

And my response?

“Yes, if only we knew and understood that.”

The Deepest Need

If only men knew how much we need to rely on them, trust them, respect them, and love them.

How much we need them to hold us, keep us safe, and stand strong when the world turns harsh and cruel.

What if, instead of fearing one another and fighting for dominance, we made room for needing one another? What if we embraced the truth written in Genesis?

“So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.”

- Genesis 2:21-22

In Genesis 1:26-27, God creates both man and woman simultaneously, in His image:

“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Restoring the Meaning of Life

These passages symbolize unity, a deep and sacred connection between man and woman. God could have made Eve after Adam without his rib. God didn't.

Why do you think that is?

Can we let that truth back into our lives today?

Can we give it meaning?

To me, this is the meaning of life. The way life is meant to be created and nurtured, not through using each other and discarding when convenient, but through understanding our deep need for one another as God intented. Through unity.
